Despite advancements in agricultural technology and the development of innovative seed preservation tools, the global seed trade has experienced consistent growth over the last decades. According to data from the International Seed Federation (ISF), the global seed market reached a record-breaking value of USD 66.41 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow to USD 70.94 billion by 2025.
Seed exports and imports have become essential activities that drive planting processes, support the genetic improvement of crops, and ensure global food security. Chilean companies have taken a leading role in this sector, positioning Chile among the top seed-exporting nations. According to Chilean Customs’ foreign trade statistics, the country’s annual seed exports in 2024 amounted to a total value of USD 213,104,433.
